An Instrument of Nature

As Arctic ice floes undulate and clash, they form hummocks–hills of broken ice that can reach 20 feet. Intrepid travelers recount an ever-present song to the slow crashing ice. One that is low and restrained but heard from afar. It’s described as a shrieking, “whining puppies,” or “grinding machinery.”

Nature marvels Alquier. He pays umbrage to this natural phenomenon with the Hummocks, a concept model made from bamboo.

A cracked ice finish festoons the guitar. Hexagonal sound holes depict the crystal ice structure. The music doesn’t end there. In the dark, phosphorescent paint highlight the guitar’s recurring motifs. It’s a concept, so it’s meant to the stretch the limits.
